19th C. Historical Staffordshire Transferware Basket & Undertray
A footed reticulated molded basket with a view of Bretton Hall, Yorkshire together with a reticulated undertray with a view of Dalguise, Perthshire. Both from Riley’s Large Scroll Border series. Circa 1825.
Dimensions:
Basket: Approximately 11¼” x 8¼” x 4” deep.
Undertray: Approximately 10½” x 8½”.
The basket is decorated with panels on the sides and ends composed of large floral, foliate scroll, and diaper elements. The central scene of the manor house and grounds above a lake with a sailboat and ducks. The reverse is unmarked; however, there is an old label.
The undertray is decorated with a central scene of the manor house with a pathway to a bridge with cattle in the foreground. The reverse is unmarked.
The basket has an old repair to one handle, a small glaze chip on base, and mild staining under the foot, otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage.
The undertray has a tiny glaze hairline under the rim, otherwise excellent condition consistent with age and usage.

The scenes are derived from prints by John Preston Neale published in 1821 and 1822.
