Chinese Export Armorial Plate – Harrington Impaling Rockley
Chinese export porcelain plate, circa 1755.
Dimensions: Approximately 8⅝” in diameter.
Decoration:
The rim is bordered with a gilt C scroll border and bears an armorial with the motto “Nodo Firmo”.
The cavetto is decorated with gilt chain.
The center is decorated with a floral bouquet.
The reverse is undecorated and bears an old label identifying the armorial.
The service is illustrated and discussed in Howard, “Chinese Armorial Porcelain”, Vol. 1., at p.422.
Howard does not specifically identify for whom the service was produced, merely stating the Harringtons are descended from a Cumberland family whose chief later seat was Aldingham in Lancashire.
Condition: In excellent condition consistent with age and usage. Please examine the photos; they are part of the description.
