Underglaze blue Chinese export porcelain covered cider jug, c. 1800.

 

Dimensions: Approximately 10½” (including the lid) x 6” (without regard to the handle).

 

Decoration:  

The body is bordered with a narrow geometric band beneath which is a shaded trellis, spearhead and dumbbell patterned band often referred to as the “Nanking” pattern.

 

The body is decorated with pavilions, trees, a boat, and birds.

 

The base is unmarked.

 

The lid has a similar border and decoration and is surmounted by a Buddhist lion.
