18th Century Chinese Export Fitzhugh Sauce Tureen

18th Century Chinese Export Fitzhugh Sauce Tureen

$0.00Price

Blue and white Fitzhugh pattern sauce tureen, circa 1790.

Both the lid and body have typical Fitzhugh decoration of a trellis diaper border with spearheads and dumbbell, four separate floral sprays surrounding a central medallion.

The slightly blurry decorations on the exterior are the result of excess glaze being applied during the making. The underside of the base also shows indicators of excess glazing resulting in a sort of thick bluish tone as well.

The lid has a floral knopf.

Condition: Blurred decorations from manufacture, frit to interior of one handle, flea bites to foot rim, some staining on the interior; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage.

Dimensions: Approximately 7½” long (incl. handles) x 5½” tall (incl. lid).
