18th Century Massive Chinese Export Cider Mug with Harbor Scene
Chinese export porcelain cider mug, circa 1760 -1780.
Dimensions: Approximately 6” tall x 5” diameter. Volume is approximately 1½ quarts.
Underglaze blue border in a diaper and trellis pattern.
The body has a large scene of an active harbor in famille rose colors that is surrounded by a blue scroll frame.
There are additional vignettes in sepia and in rose of trees and mountains also surrounded by blue scroll borders.
The remainder of the body is decorated in a red and gilt diaper pattern.
Condition: Old repairs to body and handle. At some point a large section of the body cracked and was repaired and inpainted. The handle has been repaired. The interior is stained and there is crazing.
Nevertheless, it displays extremely well, particularly given its large size.
