19th C English Chamberlain Worcester Armorial Bowl – MacIntosh
Worcester Chamberlain porcelain armorial bowl c. 1800, bearing arms, crest, and motto of the MacIntosh clan.
The bowl has a gilded rim.
Both the interior and exterior have a 2” wide dark orange band decorated with gilt scrolls interspersed with large white flowers and the arms, crest, and motto of the MacIntosh clan.
The crest is a cat sejant on hind feet.
While the Motto is: “Touch Not A Cat But A Glove”. This is interpreted to mean don’t touch a cat without a glove. Wise advice.
The center of the interior is decorated with a large white flower set upon a dark orange geometric figure.
The base bears the inscription “Chamberlains Worcester”. This mark was used after approximately 1790.
Dimensions: Approximately 9½” diameter, 3¾” height.
Condition: Some minor rubbing and rim fleabite; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage.
