Chinese Export American Market Dish


Chinese export famille rose dish, c. 1795.


Dimensions: Approximately 9¾” diameter.



The rim is edged in gold.


The border has three blue and gilt bands, the center being decorated with gold stars.


The cavetto is rimmed with blue and gold spearheads.


The center is decorated with an unidentified sepia image of a country house and a large tree. The image is surrounded by a wide gilt and blue band and a spearhead band like that of the cavetto.


The reverse is unmarked.


In their book “Chinese Export Porcelain” at p. 118, Madsen & White discuss this type of border with gilt stars as being particularly popular with the American market.


Condition: Wear to gilding and minor glaze flaws; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage. Please examine the photos; they are part of the description.
