Chinese Export Armorial Plate - Auchmuty
Chinese export porcelain plate, circa 1760.
Dimensions: Approximately 8⅞” in diameter.
Decoration:
The edge is gilded.
The rim is decorated with floral sprays.
The cavetto is decorated with spearheads.
The center is decorated with a coat of arms and motto of the Auchmuty family.
The reverse is undecorated.
The service is illustrated and discussed in Howard, “Chinese Armorial Porcelain”, Vol. 1., at p. 490.
Howard believes that the service possibly may have been made for Thomas Auchmuty of Dublin, who married his cousin Judith, daughter of Samuel Auchmuty of Brainstown, County Longford.
Condition: Faint hairline; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage. Please examine the photos; they are part of the description.
