Chinese Export Dutch Market Armorial Plate -Van der Parra

Chinese export porcelain plate, circa 1765.

 

Dimensions: Approximately 6⅝” in diameter.

 

Decoration:
The rim is edged in gold.

 

The border is decorated with two greens and gilt sawtooth bands.

 

The cavetto is decorated with a gold spearhead band.

 

The center is decorated with the monogram “PA VD PARRA” in an oval created by two hunting horns with putti supporters and surmounted by a gold crown.

 

Around this design are six flower sprays.

 

The reverse is unmarked.

 

The monogram is that of Petrus Albertus van der Parra who was governor General of the Dutch East Indies from 1761 until his death in 1775. The service is illustrated and discussed in Kroes, “Chinese Armorial Porcelain for the Dutch Market”, at p. 431.

 

Condition: Minor loss of gilding and enamel; otherwise, excellent condition consistent with age and usage. Please examine the photos; they are part of the description.
