$700.00Price

Chinese export porcelain plate with molded silver-form body, circa 1770.

The rim is outlined with a gold band, is decorated with floral swags, and bears an ornate armorial with lion supporters and a Marquise’ crown.

The service is illustrated and discussed in Lebel, “French and Swiss Armorials on Chinese Export Porcelain of the 18th Century”, at page 138.

The service appears to have been made for Alexandre-Jean Boula de Mareuil, a lawyer and prosecutor in pre-Revolutionary Paris. In 1751 he married Antoinette-Marguerite-Josephe de La Haye de Bazinvinlle, daughter of a Secretary to the King.

He was arrested during the French revolution, but was released, dying in 1796.
