Chinese Export Monogrammed Masonic Cup and Saucer
Chinese export porcelain cup and saucer, circa 1790.
Dimensions:
Cup: Approximately 3⅜” diameter.
Saucer: Approximately 5½” diameter.
Decoration:
The plate is edged with a gold band with blue diamonds.
Beneath that are fine intertwined ribbons.
The central portion is decorated with Masonic symbols.
At the center there is a badge with a monogram that appears to be “RPC”.
The badge bears the motto “Amicus Alter Ego”, meaning “I am a friend of the other”.
The badge is held by a ribbon and is draped with bands of foliage and husks.
The reverse is unmarked.
The cup’s exterior bears the monogram design on one side and a Masonic design on the other.
The interior is edged with the same gold band as the plate and the base is unmarked.
Condition: Flea bite on rim of cup; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage.
