Although pieces of this service have been attributed to a service owned by John and Abagail Adams and used at their Quincy Massachusetts home, I believe that this version of the pattern is very similar to, but different from that service.

An example of this pattern can be found in the Daniel and Serga Nadler Collection of Chinese Export Porcelain at Winterthur. It is described as “This small plate is similar to those from a dinner service used by John Adams (later, the second president of the United States) and his wife, Abigail, at their home in Quincy, Massachusetts.

For comparison, the Adams service is illustrated and discussed in Schiffer, “China for America” p. 107 and Mudge, “Chinese Export Porcelain in North America” at p. 160; and is illustrated in Schiffer, “Chinese Export Porcelain” at p. 34, cat. 90.

Condition: A frit and a minor glaze loss to the reverse of the rim; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage. Please examine the photos; they are part of the description.
