Delftware Kraak Style Charger with Chinese Figures

Delftware Kraak Style Charger with Chinese Figures

$700.00Price

Tin-glazed earthenware charger bearing the mark of De Metaale Pot, circa 1764.

Dimensions: Approximately 11½” diameter.

Decoration:

The rim is decorated in a Kraak style of alternating large panels of lakeside scenes and flowers. The large panels are separated by smaller panels with a diaper and flower design.

The center is decorated with a scene of a fisherman and large structures surrounded by foliage.

There is a boat with a passenger on the water.

The reverse of the rim is decorated with a series of four dot designs, possibly simplified flowers.

The base bears the mark “MP” which is the mark of De Metaale Pot Factory registered by Master potter Pieter Paree in 1764.

While this piece is of relatively late production for examples of Delft Kraak style plates, it exemplifies the continued interest of the Dutch market for Kraak style wares and Chinese “exotica” well into the 18th century.

Condition: There are glaze fleabites, flakes, and frits typical of antique tin-glazed earthenware. Otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage. Please examine the photos; they are part of the description.
