“Egyptian Miscellany” Transferware Reticulated Basket and Undertray

Staffordshire transferware basket and undertray, circa 1830.

 

Dimensions:

Basket approximately 11½” x 7¼” x 3⅜” (including handles)
            Undertray approximately 12¼” x 9¾”

 

Decoration:

The internal and external rim of the basket is decorated in a Greek key pattern.

 

The interior of the basket is decorated with numerous small images, many of Egyptian origin, including Sphynx, hieroglyphs, and waterlily pads.

 

The handles are in the form of branches intertwined with vines.

 

The base is bordered with a rope pattern, is unmarked, and bears an old label.

 

The undertray is bordered with a blue band.

 

Th center of the undertray is decorated with the same border and images.

 

The base of the undertray is unmarked and bear the remnants of an old label.

 

Condition: Roughness on one handle, minor glaze and transfer flaws; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage.
