French Market Armorial Cup & Saucer – de Vogue

Chinese export porcelain cup and saucer, circa 1770.

 

Dimensions: Cup approximately 3½” in diameter.
                        Saucer approximately 5½” in diameter

 

Decoration:
The rim of the saucer is edge with gold and decorated with a floral swag.

 

The center is decorated with an armorial of a rooster with eagle supporters below a count’s crown.

 

The reverse is undecorated.

 

The cup is similarly decorated

 

The service is illustrated and discussed in Lebel, “French and Swiss Armorials on Chinese Export Porcelain of the 18th Century”, at page 274.

 

The service appears to have been made for Florimond-Annet-Innocent de Vogue, a cavalry officer who was given the honor of Knight of the Order of Saint Louis in 1770.

 

Condition: Loss of gilding on the rims; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage. Please examine the photos; they are part of the description.
