Chinese Export Porcelain French Market Armorial Plate - Taillefer de Roussille

French Market Armorial Plate - Taillefer de Roussille

$750.00Price

Chinese export porcelain plate, circa 1775.

Dimensions: Approximately 9” in diameter.

Decoration:
The rim is decorated with a gold band, floral swags, and an armorial with two naked men in loincloths as supporters and bearing a Count’s crown.

The cavetto is decorated with a gold spearhead band.

The center is decorated with floral bouquet.

The reverse is undecorated and bears a Matthew & Elizabeth Sharpe label that mis-identifies the armorial, attributing it to The Minister of Trade of Portugal.

The service is illustrated and discussed in Lebel, “French and Swiss Armorials on Chinese Export Porcelain of the 18th Century”, at page 282.

The service appears to have been made for the Rousille branch of the Taillefer family from the Perigord region. The gilt scimitar in the armorial represents a cadet branch of the family.

Condition: Minor glaze flaws; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage. Please examine the photos; they are part of the description.

Please note, I do NOT issue partial refunds. If you believe that my description is not accurate, I will refund your purchase price upon receipt of the item in the same condition as it was sent under the terms of the return policy in this listing.
