18th C. Kangxi Imari Shell Dish - #2

Chinese export porcelain Imari pattern molded dish, c. 1700 – 1720.

 

Dimensions: Approximately 6¼” x 6½”.

 

Decoration:  

The shell-shaped body is edged in gold with a narrow diaper band and is decorated in Imari floral designs in underglaze blue with overglaze iron red and gilt highlights.

 

The reverse glaze has a slightly blue tint.

 

The reverse bears a label from the Benjamin F. Edwards collection. Edwards was a well known collector of Chinese Imari porcelain.

 

This reverse also bears tw0 labels for Lot 492 in Christie’s New York June 2, 2005, sale (Sale #1528).

 

Condition: Wear to gilt, fritting, age related wear on reverse, glaze flaw on front; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage.
