Chinese export porcelain Imari pattern molded dish, c. 1700 – 1720.
Dimensions: Approximately 4⅝” x 4¾”.
Decoration:
The shell-shaped body is is decorated in Imari floral designs in underglaze blue with overglaze iron red and gilt highlights. There is a hole at the base for hanging.
The sides and end are also decorated with typical Imari designs.
The reverse bears a label from the Benjamin F. Edwards collection. Edwards was a well known collector of Chinese Imari porcelain.
This piece was part of Lot 492 in Christie’s New York June 2, 2005, sale (Sale #1528).
Condition: Age related wear on reverse, wear to gilt, age related wear on reverse; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage.
