"Large LaFayette at Franklin’s Tomb" Transferware Pitcher

Staffordshire transferware Pitcher by Enoch Woods, circa 1825. Also known as “LaFayette at the Tomb of Franklin”.

 

Dimensions: Approximately 8¾” tall x 8¼” wide (handle to tip of spout).

 

Decoration:

The border is decorated with flowers and other foliage that flow into the central scene.

 

The central scene on each side is of a seated LaFayette viewing a large urn bearing the inscription “Franklin”. In the background is a rising or setting sun before with is a ship and a temple.

 

The base bears the impressed mark “Woods” and a printed workman’s mark.
