Transferware platter, circa 1820.

 

Dimensions: Approximately 14.5” x 11”.

 

Decoration:

The border is decorated with geometric designs and, at the corners, leaves and stylized flowers.

 

The center is decorated with an Chinoiserie scene of several buildings, groupings of different trees, and two spotted deer, one standing and one sitting.

 

The reverse of each is plain.

 

Based upon shards found upon the site, the platters may be attributed to one of the early Bovey Tracey potteries in Devon, U.K. From the dating of the shards, likely the Indeo Pottery.
