Pair 19th C. Worcester Flight Barr & Barr Armorial Plates - O'Brien
Pair of Worcester Flight Barr & Barr Armorial Plates c. 1825.
Each approximately 8½” diameter.
The apple green border has a gilt gradrooned edge.
The cavetto has a simple gilt band and thin gilt line.
The center is white with a large crest of an arm holding a dagger with the motto: “Vigueur De Dessus” meaning “Strength From Above”.
A plate of the same pattern was sold by Chrisites New York as part of lot 59, Property from the Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff, in its May 20, 2008 sale of Important European Furniture, Works of Art, Ceramics, Carpets, And Glass.
According to Chrisities, the crest is that of O'Brien as borne by the Earls of Inchquin.
Condition: Loss of some gilding on each plate; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage.
