Pair of 18th C. English Polychrome Delftware Plates
Delftware plates attributed to Lambeth, circa 1785.
Dimensions: Each is approximately 9” diameter.
The rim is decorated with a blue feather edge and classical floral garlands.
The center is decorated with a stylized fenced oriental garden with trees, plants, and grass.
The reverse of each plate is undecorated, unmarked, and bears dealer labels.
Although one label dates the plates to c. 1740, I believe on the basis of the rim decorationthat these likely date to the last quarter of the 18th century.
Condition: Both plates have rim frits and chips typical of antique tin-glazed earthenware. One plate has significant glaze loss on the reverse. Otherwise, they are in excellent condition consistent with age and usage.
