Very Large 18th C. Chinese Export Porcelain Famille Rose Monogrammed Tankard
Chinese export porcelain tankard, 3rd quarter of the 18th century.
Dimensions: Approximately 5” diameter x 5⅞” tall.
The body is rimmed with a diaper band with floral and landscape vignettes.
The body is decorated with bianco-sopra-bianco floral designs and large panels on a punched ground.
The side panels have floral and landscape decoration.
The front panel is decorated with the image of man and a woman holding the trunk of a tree, the tree rests on a heart within which is a monogram.
The handle is in the form of a dragon.
The base is unmarked and bears a label “Tankard intended for special occasin [sic] with monogram c 1770”.
Condition: Interior and exterior staining and crazing, frits, handle possibly re-attached; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage.
